FSSAI REGISTRATION IN RAIPUR: COMPLETE LICENSING GUIDE FOR FOOD BUSINESSES

Planning to start a restaurant, cloud kitchen, bakery, catering business or any food-related venture in India? Before serving your first customer, make sure your business has the required FSSAI Registration or Licence. FSSAI compliance not only helps you meet legal requirements but also builds customer trust and confidence by showing that your food business follows the required safety and quality standards.

What is FSSAI?

FSSAI stands for Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. It is the regulatory authority responsible for monitoring and regulating food businesses across India. FSSAI helps ensure that food products meet the required safety, hygiene, and quality standards before they reach consumers. It also sets food safety guidelines, conducts inspections, and takes action against businesses that fail to follow the applicable regulations.

Who Needs FSSAI Registration?

FSSAI registration or a licence may be required for:

  • Restaurants and cafés
  • Cloud kitchens
  • Bakeries
  • Caterers
  • Food manufacturers
  • Food retailers and wholesalers
  • Home-based food businesses
  • Online food businesses

Types of FSSAI Registration

There are mainly three types:

1. Basic Registration: For small food businesses. Generally for small food businesses with annual turnover up to ₹12 lakh.

2. State Licence: For businesses operating on a larger scale within a state. Generally applicable to businesses with annual turnover above ₹12 lakh and up to ₹20 crore, subject to the applicable category.

3. Central Licence: For larger businesses and certain specified food businesses. Generally applicable to businesses with annual turnover above ₹20 crore and certain specified categories.

NOTE – The applicable category depends on the nature and scale of the business.

Penalty for Operating Without FSSAI Registration

Running a food business without the required FSSAI registration or licence can lead to penalties under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Operating without the required licence can attract a penalty of up to ₹5 lakh. Other violations, such as selling unsafe, sub-standard or misbranded food, may attract additional penalties depending on the nature of the violation. Therefore, it is important to obtain the correct FSSAI registration or licence and maintain ongoing compliance.

Why is FSSAI Important?
